Where Did the Summer Go???

Where Did the Summer Go???

It is hard to believe that we have reached the last long weekend of summer. Parents and kids across the city are busy buying school supplies and that special outfit for the first day back. This is the week we try to get back into bedtime routines in preparation for those early mornings.

The Region has lowered speed limits in an additional 31 school zones along regional roads in an effort to enhance road safety. These changes will be in effect during school hours. Please remember when you are driving through our neighbourhoods, watch for our youngest residents. With the excitement of seeing some of their friends again they may forget to watch where they are going.

It is our job to drive slow through school zones and pay extra special attention to our students walking or on bikes.

All Region of Waterloo school buses have now been retrofitted with new provincially mandated amber lights. These lights are to warn drivers the bus will be slowing down before switching to the red lights and extending a stop sign telling drivers they must stop. The new warning lights are aimed at catching drivers' attention, and increasing student safety.

A huge thank you to all of our bus drivers and crossing guards that are helping to get our students back to school safely. Let's do our part and be cautious.

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable long weekend!

Mayor Kathryn Mcgarry
