Come On Cambridge Let's Get ACTIVE

Cambridge strives to be Canada’s Most Active Community

Cambridge, Ontario – As part of Recreation and Parks Month this June, the City of Cambridge is encouraging residents, community partners and workplaces to take part in ParticipACTION’s nationwide annual Community Better Challenge. Groups who can not be together physically at this time can still challenge each other and work together remotely.

The community with the most logged active minutes from June 1st to 30th will win the title “Canada’s Most Active Community”, and a prize of $100,000.

“This challenge to get moving comes at an important time when everyone is faced with additional stress from the pandemic,” says Deputy Mayor Mike Mann. “Being active not only adds to our personal mental and physical health, but contributes to overall community wellbeing. With your participACTION I am confident we can win.”

To join the challenge, track individual or group activity through the month of June by downloading the ParticipACTION app from Participants will also have the chance to win individual prizes while contributing to the logged minutes for Cambridge based on the postal code.

Ideas to get active:

· Follow the calendar for daily tips:

· Explore some of the city’s 50 km of trails:

· Visit the 365 hectares of parkland:

The City reminds residents to enjoy parks and trails safely by following public health guidelines. Limit outdoor social gatherings to 5 people, practice physical distancing and wear a mask when distancing is not possible.

About ParticipACTION:

When we first started, Canadians were struggling to achieve their physical activity goals. So, we showed them how 30-year-old Canadians were about as fit as 60-year-old Swedes. When the 1990’s rolled around, Hal and Joanne were there to offer easy ways to “Keep fit and have fun” through our iconic Body Break segments.

Since 1971 we've been working hard to make Canada a place where physical activity is a vital part of everyday life. As we move forward, we're focused on changing behaviour through a movement for more movement, by collaborating with our organizations in the sport, physical activity, and recreation sectors alongside partners.

2021 is our 50th anniversary (that means we're almost as old as the famous 60-year old Swede!). Visit our special 50th birthday page to discover how Everything gets better when you get retroactive.
