Construction is underway in Hespeler as the site of the old “Beer Store” is being reimagined to become a modern industrial-style event venue. Located at 408 Queen Street West in Cambridge, just east of Highway 24 and five minutes off highway 401, is the 4,000 square-foot building that sits at the corner of Queen and Shepherd Streets.

The building, which was built in the 1960s and was the home of the beer retailer for over 40 years was eventually sold in 2015, but ended up sitting vacant for two years, succumbing to the elements. In December 2017, the building was purchased and work immediately began to plan the extensive renovation to transform it into an event venue.

“We worked with the city for nearly a year to sort out the details” explained Amy Jakubaitis, partner and co-owner of Storehouse 408. “Many intricate details went in to the planning of the space to ensure that we were complying with the city requirements on the site plan, but that we were also making the best use of the existing building, allowing for the maximum occupancy while not compromising on the style and functionality of the space for our clients” she added.

The venue has been designed with one 2,300 square-foot main event space with unobstructed views throughout the room, six individual washrooms, a client ‘flex room’ with its own private washroom, self-serve coat room and a large commercial kitchen. Outside, a private 2,600 square-foot courtyard with concrete outdoor fireplace can be accessed through an overhead ‘garage’-style door from the main hall, as well as from other access points.

“We put a lot of thought into the types of events that would be held at the venue, and as such made design decisions accordingly” mentioned Ms. Jakubaitis. “Clients are looking for spaces that are flexible enough to suit their own personal needs, and designed with thoughtful details so that they don’t need to dress it up with additional, often pricey decorations” she notes.

The venue will have a maximum standing capacity of 180 people. It is currently under construction and will be ready to open for business as of May 2019. Storehouse 408 is currently pre-booking all events including weddings, holiday parties, corporate events, showers, birthday celebrations and more.
