MP May: We Want To Help Seniors Get Involved
Government of Canada Invests in Seniors at Preston Lawn Bowling Club
Cambridge MP Bryan May, on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, was proud to announce a grant of $25,000 for the Preston Lawn Bowling Club. This investment is being made through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).
“Through the many community-based projects we support each year, the Government of Canada helps seniors across Canada share their knowledge, skills and lived experiences in unique ways. NHSP projects reflect our ongoing commitment to ensure that seniors from coast to coast can be active and prosperous members of their communities," said The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Canada
This funding will be used at the Preston Lawn Bowling Club for improving and maintaining the Club facilities, including refurbishing the playing field. This funding helps keeps seniors in our community active, healthy, and engaged. The Club has been in operation for over a century. MP Bryan May made the announcement on Sunday, May 21 at their annual open house.
“We want to make sure seniors can get involved in community activities, like lawn bowling, that meet their needs and promote their participation in our community. We support New Horizons projects like the Preston Lawn Bowling Club because of the benefits to our whole community," said Bryan May, Member of Parliament for Cambridge
The New Horizons for Seniors Program provides grants for community organizations which help seniors give back to their community and improves community connectedness for seniors.
The Government of Canada is providing approximately $35 million in NHSP funding for close to 1,850 community-based projects approved through the 2016-2017 NHSP.
Since 2004, the NHSP has funded close to 19,700 projects in hundreds of communities across Canada, with a total Government of Canada investment of approximately $417 million.
"The Preston club is pleased that with the support from the New Horizons for Seniors Program, the century old organization will be able to continue to provide a safe and welcoming environment for our Seniors and others in Cambridge and surrounding area," said Dave Allen, Grants Chair, Preston Lawn Bowling Club
