    Description

Bill Schwarz, B.A. J. D.

Bill Schwarz is a lawyer carrying on an active law practice in Cambridge, Ontario with his law partner, Bob Pettitt. He graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Toronto in 1966 and was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1968. Born and raised for the first seventeen years of his life in Regina and Tyvan, Saskatchewan, he won his first colouring contest at the age of five! This burst of glory was interrupted for fifty years by school and his law practice. However, genius can never be suppressed! His smouldering interest in art was re-kindled in 1997 when his wife, Nancy, suggested they take an art course. In the pursuit of excellence his artistic skills are continuing to be developed at the Ontario College of Art and Design, the Dundas Valley School of Art, the Homer Watson House & Gallery, the Cambridge Library and Gallery, the Georgian Bay School of Art, and by attending other artists’ workshops. In addition to numerous solo shows Bill, in 2003, was honoured to be one of four visual artists chosen by the Mayor of the City of Cambridge to participate in the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts. In 2003 his art was selected by Tony Urquhart and Don McKay as part of the 2nd annual Cambridge Centre for the Arts Juried Exhibition. In 2004 his art was selected by Virginia M. Eichhorn, Brian Smylski and David Wright as part of the Grimsby Public Library Biannual Juried Exhibition and two of his pictures by Judith Nasby as part of the 3rd annual Cambridge Centre for the Arts Juried Exhibition. Also in 2004 the Southampton School of Art chose Bill’s picture to grace the cover of its 2005 catalogue. In 2005, Bill’s pictures were chosen by Carl Tacon and Rhona Wenger for the 32nd annual Art Gallery of Peel Juried Show; by Donn Zver and Alexandria Pierce for the 9th annual Dundas Valley School of Art Juried show; by curator, Jody Joseph, for the Carnegie Gallery Urban Landscape show ‘Amalgamation’; by Judith Nasby for the McDonald Stewart Art Gallery Juried Show, and by Ann Roberts for the 4th annual Cambridge Centre for the Arts Juried Exhibition. In 2006 Bill’s pictures were chosen by Marla Panko for the for the 5th annual Cambridge Centre for the Arts Juried Exhibition and by Judith Nasby for the MacDonald Stewart Art Centre Beyond the Frame 2006. Also in 2006 Bill was a Visual Arts Award Finalist for the Bernice Adams Memorial Awards. In 2007 Bill was honoured to be one of the visual artists chosen to participate in the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts. Also in 2007 Bill’s pictures were chosen by Judith Nasby for the MacDonald Stewart Art Centre Beyond the Frame 2007 and by Alfred Bogusky for the 6th Annual Cambridge Centre for the Arts Juried Exhibition. In 2008 Bill's picture represented 'March' in the official City of Cambridge calendar.  Bill draws and paints, primarily in pen, ink and watercolour.
