Autonomous vehicles (AVs) are widely predicted to be on Canadian roads within the next 10 years. They will dramatically change the future of transit planning, insurance pricing, and the business of trucking. They will also provide savings in gas costs, they are predicted to reduce traffic jams, and they should therefore shorten travel times.
According to the Conference Board of Canada report the rollout of the technology will be disruptive as they have potential for great benefits. It stressed that Government and business both need to plan for their arrival. The report concludes that no major infrastructure projects should be undertaken in Canada without giving AVs consideration.
It will be interesting to see how quickly people adopt AV use in Canada and how they change our driving landscape.
