The Toronto Star recently reported a shocking statistic that nearly 70% of companies in Ontario are not complying with accessibility legislation. Companies had until December 2012 to file reports outlining how they accomodate customers with disabilities.
It would apear that only 26% of the companies have complied. Under tha act the companies must show how they comply with standards in five areas:
-
customer service
-
employment
-
information and communications
-
transportation
-
design of public spaces
The government must take action to support the needs of the one in seven Ontarians that have a disability. You can read about the act on the government website.
